Dear Partner,

Warm greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Whose we are and Whom we serve.

I apologise that this is coming a couple of days late. I just got back from a quick trip where I attended a Minister’s Conference with my associate pastor and it turned out to be more hectic than I envisaged. My original plan was to write this letter last week while on the trip. Alas! My plan fell through and here comes my love letter today.

Two months ago, we began to talk about an area that is critical to the life of victory any believer can have, yet it is an area that is often overlooked by most believers as many do not truly have a revelation of this.

We began to ask the question: “What is that in your mouth?” We said first that it is what is in your heart. Here is another truth that answers that question.

IT IS THE KEY TO LIFE AND DEATH

20 A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:20-21 NKJV

The tongue has a lot of power! What kind of power? The kind of power a key has.
A key either opens up and gives access to something or closes out and locks up something. Even a mansion with lots of good things in it can be locked or opened by a small key. An item so small has power so big.

3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
James 3:3-5NKJV

The Bible also likens a tongue to the rudder of a ship that turns the large ship either way.

19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV

Here, He puts a multiple choice question before you, A. Life or B. Death and just in case you are stupid enough to answer B, He quickly tells you the answer is A. CHOOSE LIFE. Friend, which have you been choosing?

One way you choose life is by what comes out of your mouth – which is a function of what you have put in your heart.
If choosing your words is a bother to you, then it means it doesn’t bother you whether you experience life or death in your walk with God.

11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
Matthew 15:11 NKJV

Defile means to be common, i.e. (literally) shared by all or several, or (cer.) profane (not holy, not separated).

Partner, as believers we should be separated from the crowd in our experience of life. We should not share the common meal of death in our finances, in our physical bodies, in the failure of our marriages, and in all that pertains to us. We should dare to be undefiled – to be uncommon in our experience of life.

The way we stay undefiled is by what we let out of our mouths. The guarantee to this output being life is what we have loaded into the soil of our hearts.

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45 NKJV

Note from Luke 6:45, it says “brings forth”, indicating a process. Your choice of life in your words is a process that is bringing forth good things in your life.

15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Romans 10:15 NKJV

11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
Hebrews 9:11 NKJV

The “good” things include the benefits provided through the sacrifice of Christ.
What are these benefits, as conferred through the gospel? They are summarized beautifully in Psalms 103:1-5.

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalms 103:1-5 NKJV

These are the good things that your tongue can unlock from positional to experiential in your life.

Partner, when you take note that what is in your mouth is the key to life and death you will pass on life to the next generation.

21 “As for Me,” says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the LORD, “from this time and forevermore.”
Isaiah 59:21 NKJV

Let the words of your mouth be a heritage for the next generation and you help them to use their key aright and choose life too!
