About 6:00 p.m. on the 24th of February, we were tidying up to leave the office. My head of operations had just left about some minutes earlier. I had stood up clearing my desk out in preparation to go home. About five minutes after my head of operations left we heard a gunshot followed by spontaneous and sporadic gunshots and dynamites’ explosion. Initially, my colleagues and I thought it was maybe police chasing hoodlums, but the sounds were now closer to my office premises. Someone peeped through the rotor door and screamed that they were coming towards our office with the head of operations. We all ran upstairs and found other members of staff lying face down on the ground because bullets were now flying everywhere. I started speaking in tongues and also told my colleagues not to fear but pray and speak in tongues with me. I also started confessing Psalm 91 but in fear. By this time they were inside the premises, shooting all types of guns and dynamites from all sides of the building.
By this time over a million thought bombs were racing through my head. I thought about my kids, husband and family. I also thought about how “helpless” we were. I also began to ask myself: “Where are all the mobile policemen at Genesis cinema who would usually stop me every evening on my way back from work to ask for my tinted glass permit? I wonder why they did not come out to fight the robbers?” Just then the Spirit of God in me said, “Ify, why do you ask for man’s help when I am right here beside you?” Then I remembered that I had confessed Psalm 91:5 with my children that morning which says, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,” and I had instant peace. I kept saying that with long life I will be satisfied.
About fifteen minutes or thereabout they gained entrance into the building with an angry outburst about how we did not open up the office for them and how they will kill all of us once they find us. We all stood up and ran into different rooms. About five of us ran into the toilet, and they came up with my head of operations who God used to talk to them and calm them down. She kept telling them to calm down that we will co-operate with them. They asked that we all come out and no one volunteered to be the first. The only male amongst us volunteered when they began to cock their guns.
We were all marched downstairs and they took the guy with the head of operations to the safe.
At this point when we got down, we were asked to lie down flat while they continued shooting. Much later when it seemed it was difficult for them to access what they came for, they came back again; threatening to kill us while still shooting inside.
After what seemed like an eternity they came back having gotten what they wanted and came for us threatening rape. At this point, I asked God to make them forget this particular thing in their mind and He answered because one of them came and said it was time to go. Before they left they robbed us of our jewelry and money, after which they all left. Eventually, my head of operations came crying that they had gone. Indeed this was a great and humongous miracle because it was about fifty minutes of non-stop shooting of guns and grenades both inside and outside. Suffice it to say that I had just changed some euro given to my son when he was born and the money was right there on top of my table, not inside an envelope but right on top of my table and it was not stolen.
The grand finale of this miracle by my Jehovah-Overdo God is that I had bought twenty liters of fuel in a jerrycan which was inside my car just by the door where grenades/bullets were used to gain entrance into the office. Also, God stopped an explosion that would have arisen from that grenade being blown two steps away from my car.
I thank God for being our refuge and fortress. We called on Him and he answered us in a time of trouble. He is our ever-present help in times of need.
There were no lives lost amongst us even though, we heard of stray bullets hitting people in their homes and offices; but God was our shield and He kept us safe and like always, He answered us when we needed Him most. Indeed the Word was made manifest again in my life!
